Exotic Animal Supply
An e-commerce blog built from zero, and a ranking drop that wasn't an SEO problem
The situation
Exotic Animal Supply sells feed and supplies to zoos, breeders, and pet owners from a Shopify store. When I started in May 2026 the store had no blog, and its product pages weren't answering the questions buyers were searching.
What I did
- Planned and wrote 18 articles between July and September 2026, grouped by the brands the client makes money on: BioWorma, Mazuri, Standlee, Valu-Pak, ZuPreem, and Purina AquaMax.
- Wrote the Mazuri dealer page.
- Checked every dosing and nutrition claim against the manufacturer's datasheet. That check caught a live product page listing a supplement dose at 0.1 oz per 100 lbs when the label says 1.6 oz. I corrected it.
- Investigated a ranking drop on the client's most important product. The cause was stock: three of four warehouses were at zero. Rankings recovered after the restock, and no SEO change was needed.
- Found 22 pages linked from the main menu that returned an error to Google and could not be crawled.
What changed
From July 1 to October 3, 2026, the 18 articles earned 106 clicks and about 7,000 impressions from Google, with most ranking between positions 5 and 8. The best performer, a comparison of two parasite control products, brought 26 clicks at an average position of 7.6. Sitewide search clicks stayed flat over the same period, at around 40 to 45 a day.
What I'd do differently
Several articles rank on page one and get almost no clicks, which points to weak titles. I'd have tested titles in month two instead of publishing more articles.
